DILLON, Colo. – For the second straight slalom race,
Wilhelm Normannseth claimed a win while
Madison Hoffman was victorious on the women's side as the Utah Ski Team secured a meet triumph at the Denver Invitational on Sunday at Loveland Ski Area.
The Utes capped the meet with 734 points, with host Denver next in the standings (608).
Utah put four athletes in the top-nine of the men's race, with
Jeremy Mathers placing sixth (1:37.25),
Raphael Lessard in eighth (1:37.32) and
Gustav Vøllo behind Lessard for ninth by the narrowest of margins (1:37.33). Normannseth now has won all four RMISA men's slalom races this season, and is up to six in his career. It was sparked by a top run of 44.91 seconds during the morning, with Mathers also putting on the second-best run of the morning (45.67 seconds).
It was the second slalom win of the season for Hoffman (1:32.14) and third of her career. She had a second-place run in the morning at 44.61 seconds, following up in the afternoon with a clock of 47.53 seconds—best in the field and securing the individual victory.
Michelle Kervén tabbed fourth on the day (1:33.41), including a top-four run to begin the day.
Josefine Selvaag rounded out the scoring for Utah in 26
th place (1:36.60).
The Utes now head into a brief break from competition; the Nordic team is back racing on Monday, February 20 with freestyle sprints as part of the Alaska Anchorage Invitational. Alpine returns to the hill on Tuesday, February 21 with giant slalom up at UAA. That meet will then lead into the 2023 RMISA Championships, which will also be contested in Alaska.
