Utes receive votes for first time since 2021
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association posted its Top 25 rankings for the season's first week on Tuesday and the University of Utah softball team received votes in the poll for the first time since 2021.
This development comes after the Utes spent the season's first weekend collecting five straight victories at the La Jolla Invitational and did so while outscoring their opposition, 39-2. Utah collected 26 steals, the most in the nation through the season's first week, and pitcher Mariah Lopez earned the title of Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week. This marks the second time in the last four years the Utes have gotten off to a 5-0 start.
The poll's No. 1 spot continues to be held by Oklahoma and the Sooners received all 32 first-place votes. The list of Pac-12 teams in the rankings includes UCLA at No. 2, Arizona at No. 10, Washington in the 12th spot, Stanford, which dropped two spots to 19th, Arizona State at No. 22 and Oregon at No. 24.
