GIRDWOOD, Alaska –
Wilhelm Normannseth won in men's slalom,
Bjorn Brudevoll was second and
Jeremy Mathers was just off the podium in fourth, highlighting the final day of the Alaska Anchorage Invitational as the Utah Ski Team came away from the meet victorious at Alyeska Resort.
In addition,
Michelle Kervén won the second run of the women's race to shoot up to a fourth-place final result and
Katie Parker had a top-10 performance as well.
Utah finished the meet with 671 points in the standings, leading from wire-to-wire and ending the UAA Invitational with a 128-point margin on Denver.
Mathers won the men's first run as four Utes were in the top-five at the break—including Normannseth, Brudevoll and Lessard. Normannseth added another second-place second run to take the overall win (1:26.62) while Brudevoll clocked third in the finale for a combined time of 1:26.28. Mathers rounded out the Utah scoring at 1:26.74.
Oliver Parazette (seventh) and
Gustav Vøllo (ninth) were also in the top-nine.
Kervén, who was 11
th on the first run, shot up seven spots after her second-run time of 45.14 seconds stood as best in the field and giving her a final time of 1:30.12 for the day. Parker was 10
th (1:32.12) and
Katie Vesterstein also secured points for the Utes with a time of 1:33.58, taking the 22
nd spot.
While today's slalom races brought the Alaska Anchorage Invitational to a close, teams will remain there to continue the 2023 RMISA Championships. Friday's slate includes another slalom day for the alpine teams at Alyeska Resort and Nordic teams are back with a 5/10K freestyle at Government Peak.
