NEDERLAND, Colo. –
Gustav Vøllo of the Utah Ski Team narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish, while teammate
Wilhelm Normannseth joined him in the top-six as the Utes raced in giant slalom on Wednesday at Eldora Mountain Resort.
Today's race served as an extra NCAA qualifier and was not part of a meet. As such, only individual results count and no team scores were kept.
Raphael Lessard made his first giant slalom start as a Ute placing 13
th, and
Oliver Parazette rounded out the Utah contingent to finish in the top-25.
Vøllo finished third for the first run, while Normannseth was seventh after the opening run before moving up one spot in the final standings.
The event was a men's only competition; it was added to the schedule after giant slalom at the Montana State Invitational was abbreviated due to conditions back on January 31. One women's GS run was held in that meet and was won by Utah's
Kaja Norbye. Results from that day do count as an official college race, but were modified to serve as an NCAA qualifier and not as part of the Montana State Invitational.
Both the Utah alpine and Nordic teams will remain in Colorado through the weekend for upcoming competitions. Alpine will remain at Eldora Mountain Resort for two more giant slalom races, held on Thursday and Friday to conclude the Colorado Invitational.
In addition, the Denver Invitational begins on Friday. Nordic competitions are slated for Friday (5K freestyle) and Saturday (10K Classic), while back-to-back slalom days will occur on Saturday and Sunday, February 11-12. The Nordic half will take place at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado, and the slaloms will be held in Dillon, Colorado, at Loveland Ski Area.
