SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah standout senior gymnast
Maile O'Keefe has been named one of six finalists for the 2023 AAI Award, which recognizes the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. The honor is voted on by NCAA women's gymnastics head coaches and sponsored by American Athletic, Inc.
Â
O'Keefe joins Luisa Blanco (Alabama), Sierra Brooks (Michigan), Lynnzee Brown (Denver), Trinity Thomas (Florida) and Raena Worley (Kentucky) as this year's finalists for the AAI Award. O'Keefe becomes the first Red Rock to be named a finalist for the award since Baely Rowe in 2017. Utah's most recent AAI Award winner was Georgia Dabritz in 2015. The American Athletic, Inc. will announce the winner next month at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Las Vegas native has stamped her name in the storied Utah Gymnastics record books as a two-time national champion, the school record holder for most 10.0s on beam in a career, and the school record holder for most 10.0s on beam in a single season. O'Keefe broke the school record this year as a senior for most 10.0s on beam in a career after she pushed her total to seven Perfect 10s. As a junior in 2022, she recorded three Perfect 10s on beam to break the single season record at Utah, which she has since done again in 2023.
Â
O'Keefe won the 2021 national titles on both bars and floor, marking the fifth time in school history a Utah gymnast has won two national titles in the same year. She leads the Utes as an 11-time All-American between the regular season and postseason. She is a four-time All-American on beam, three-time All-American in the all-around, three-time All-American on bars, and has earned one honor on floor.
Â
O'Keefe was the 2021 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and was the Pac-12 all-around champion, as well as the Pac-12 champion on bars, beam, and floor. She followed her outstanding year with a junior season that earned her the 2022 Pac-12 Specialist of the Year award. The exquisite talent on beam for the Red Rocks finished No. 1 in the nation on beam in 2021, while she was third overall on beam in 2022 with both seasons having a 9.970 NQS or higher. She is currently ranked No. 1 on beam in the nation this season with a 9.980 NQS. After recording a 10.0 on both beam and bars against Minnesota in 2022, she became just one of five Utes in program history to achieve two perfect scores in the same meet.
Â
O'Keefe hit 130 consecutive routines to start her Red Rock career, which ranks second in school history for the longest streak of hit routines. She has collected 58 career wins to lead the team throughout her career and is a six-time Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week, which is tied for the second most in a career by a Ute since joining the league. O'Keefe has scored career highs of a 39.750 in the all-around, 10.0s on both bars and beam, a 9.9625 on floor, and a 9.90 on vault.
Along with serving as a team captain in the gym, O'Keefe is also a leader in the classroom as she is a two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American, two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, and a member of the 2022 CSC Academic All-District Team. She is majoring in kinesiology.
