SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 16 University of Utah softball team suffered a 10-1 defeat on Saturday at the hands of the No. 2 UCLA Bruins in Pac-12 Conference action at the Dumke Family Softball Stadium.
The Utes' 2023 ledger now stands at 31 wins with 12 losses and they are 12-8 conference.
After a scoreless first, a Rachel Cid RBI single got the Bruins on the board in the second and they built a 5-0 lead by tacking on four more runs in the third, two of them coming across on a Kennedy Powell double.
The only highlight of the day for Utes came in the fourth inning when
Sophie Jacquez belted an 0-1 pitch over the right field fence for her fourth homer of the year. All of Jacquez's four-baggers in 2023 have come in games against ranked opponents.
UCLA responded by scoring three times in the fifth and adding two more in the sixth before starter Brooke Yanez retired the side in the bottom of the sixth to close out the contest.
