OFF THE BLOCKS
The Utah track & field team will send 12 student-athletes to compete in seven different at the NCAA West Preliminaries this week as it looks to continue its historic season. The 12 includes two alternates for its 4x400 relay team that also qualified for the second-consecutive season – a first in program history since 2010. The 12 is also the most for Utah since joining the 2010s.
Of the 12, four are true freshmen in

Shana Van Elderen and
Erin Vringer.
Josefine Eriksen is the lone Ute to qualify for the NCAA Championships (2022). Those making their NCAA regional preliminaries debut include Daniel,
Ally Gomm,
Morgan Jensen, Martin, Van Elderen, Vringer and
Rachel Whipple.

IN THE RANKINGS
For the sixth-consecutive week, the Women of Utah were ranked in the USTFCCCA TFRI Top-25 after moving up two spots on an idle week to No. 16. In addition, it serves as the second-consecutive week the Utes have been ranked ahead of rival BYU in the rankings. The Utes are 1-of-5 women's programs in the Pac-12 to be ranked inside the Top-25, joining No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 USC, No. 12 Stanford and No. 18 Washington. The five from the Conference of Champions ranks second-most by any league behind the SEC (10) followed by the Big 12 and Big Ten at three teams apiece.
ELITE COMPANY
With times of 4:09.48 (1500m), 8:53.95 (3000m) and 15:21.19 (5000m),
Simone Plourde is just 1-of-6 collegians to run a sub-4:10 in the 1500m, sub-8:55 in the 3000m and sub-15:25 in the 5000m in NCAA history per Erik Boal from DyeStat. The other five?

PAC-12 PODIUM
The incredible season for Utah cross country and track & field continued at the Pac-12 Championships two weeks ago as it scored the most points in program history at the conference meet since joining the league in 2011-12. The 45 total points scored by the Women of Utah was 22 points higher than its previous best. Utah's ninth-place finish in the team standings was also a new program best.
Emily Venters added more hardware to her mantle on the opening day of competition as she became Utah's first-ever Pac-12 Champion at the conference meet when she earned the Pac-12 10,000m crown with a time of 32:32.98.
Two days later,
Simone Plourde gave the Utes their second individual Pac-12 Champion when she claimed the 1500m title with a meet-record breaking run of 4:09.48.
RECORDS FALL
Utah's record book continues to be rewritten each week it steps foot on the track and the Pac-12 Championships were no exception.
Simone Plourde improved her hold on the school record in the 1500m (4:09.48) while
Dinedye Denis broke the 400m hurdles record. The 4x100m relay team of Denis,
Emily Martin,
Maya LeBar and
Josefine Eriksen also broke the school record.
There were also four new or updated marks in the record book with
Harley Daniel moving up to No. 2 in the 100m hurdles (13.87), Martin to No. 3 in the 200m (24.05),
Karli Branch up to No. 4 in the 3000m steeplechase (10:49.35) and
Morgan Jensen up to No. 6 all-time in the 10,000m (33:32.38).
UP NEXT
Should the Utes qualify for the NCAA Championships, they'll head to Austin, Texas, where they'll compete on June 8 and/or June 10 should they advance to the finals – which is hosted at Mike A. Meyers Stadium, home of the Texas Longhorns and the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
