Bonstrom becomes Utah’s third two-time All-American
SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah softball senior infielder Ellessa Bonstrom was named a Second-Team All-American by D1Softball.com when the publication released its 2023 All-Americans on Tuesday.
Bonstrom is just the fourth Ute in program history to be named an All-American in two different seasons, joining Hannah Flippen, who earned this honor in 2014, 2015 and 2017, Sandy Rhea, who was an All-American in 1997 and 1998, and Charmelle Green, an All-American in 1990 and 1991. Bonstrom first earned All-American status in 2022, becoming the 13th Utah player to accomplish that feat.
Bonstrom has put together a senior season in which she's carved out spots in the Pac-12's top 10 in runs, doubles, homers, RBIs, walks, stolen bases, on-base percentage and slugging. Her 47 runs scored put her in a tie for fourth in the league and she also sits in a tie for fourth-place in RBIs with 54. That RBI total also put Bonstrom in first-place all-time on Utah's career leaderboard in that statistic.
This goes down as one more accolade in a spectacular senior season for Bonstrom, who already earned All-Pac-12 First-Team honors, an NFCA All-Pacific Region Second-Team spot and a place on the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team.
Bonstrom and her teammates are currently looking forward to their Women's College World Series opener against the Washington Huskies and Utah and UW are currently scheduled to meet Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. MT).
