Quarter of Hogue, Gasso, Parker and Olson collect Utah’s second such award
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Utah softball team coaching staff of head coach Amy Hogue, associate head coach DJ Gasso, assistant coach Paige Parker and volunteer assistant Brooke Olson has been named the ATEC/NFCA Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year, it was announced on Thursday.
This is the second time in program history Utah's coaching staff has been honored with this award, with the first instance occurring in 2017.
Hogue and her colleagues captured this honor after a 2023 campaign that included the program's first trip to the Women's College World Series since 1994 and saw them lead their team to the first-ever Pac-12 Tournament Championship. Utah's 42 victories matched the fourth-highest total in school history and their .724 win percentage goes down as the Utes' third-best.
The squad's list of accomplishments also includes winning a super regional series for the first time ever, setting new program high with eight all-conference and all-region picks, piling up a Utah-best 15 wins in Pac-12 play and sweeping a series from a team ranked inside the top five for the first time ever.
On the stat sheet, the Utes raised their batting average by nearly 40 points compared to their mark in 2022, dropped their team ERA from 3.62 to 2.86, decreased their opponent's batting average from .269 to .238, broke the program record for stolen bases in a season and finished 15th in the nation in scoring.
