Utah Volleyball opens Pac-12 play on the road at Colorado this Thursday, Sept. 21, in Boulder, Colo. The Utes and Buffaloes kick off their conference slates at 7 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Mountain. Then, Utah returns home to host the California Golden Bears this Sunday, Sept. 24. First serve is at 12 p.m. MT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The match will also be televised on Pac-12 Mountain.

Vanessa Ramirez is leading the Utah defense once again as she has done since arriving in Salt Lake City. She is third in the Pac-12 with 4.08 digs per set and has recorded double-digit digs in all but one match this season. The Pasadena, Calif., native is coming off a season high 24 digs in just four sets against Weber State. Earlier this season, Ramirez tallied 22 digs against NC State for her first match of 20-plus digs this season and now has 11 career matches of 20-plus digs after the Weber State match. She has now posted 70 matches with double-digit digs as Utah's starting libero. Ramirez is coming off a season that saw her lead the team in digs 27 of the 31 matches, while she finished third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set. She has led the team or tied for the lead in digs in all but one match this season so far.

RIANNE RISING

Rianne Vos stepped up big for the Utes last week against BYU and Weber State as she moved into a six-rotation role in both matches. Vos went on to record consecutive double-doubles last week and hit .300 or better in both outings. Against BYU, Vos posted 10 kills and a career-best 13 digs to lead the team before turning around and tallying a career high 13 kills and 12 digs against Weber State. Vanessa Ramirez. Vos has been playing in a defensive specialist role primarily during the back half of non-conference play. The Netherlands native recorded three aces against San Francisco and at Utah Valley.

Starting middle blocker
Allie Olsen is coming off a season where she recorded a .363 hitting percentage, which ranked as the sixth-best percentage in a single season in program history. Olsen is off to a hot start for her senior season as she has hit above .500 in half of the matches so far. Â At the Utah Classic, she earned All-Tournament Team honors after hitting at a blazing .419 clip through three matches. Olsen recorded a season-high .692 hitting percentage against Tennessee State from nine kills and no errors, while hitting .538 against San Francisco. Earlier in the week, Olsen recorded a career-high 12 kills at Portland State where she hit .556 to help the team, while the match before she recorded nine kills on .533 hitting. The senior from Great Falls, Mont., is hitting a team-best .347 to start the 2023 season.

GIBBY GETTING HER GROOVE
Freshman
Kamryn Gibadlo is finding her rhythm as her first collegiate season continues. Gibadlo was named to the Utah Classic All-Tournament Team after a stellar weekend. Gibadlo averaged a team-best 3.45 kills per set on .342 hitting over the three matches. The Cave Creek, Ariz., native has recorded double-digit kills in seven of the last eight matches, which includes all three at the Utah Classic. She posted a career-high 17 kills against UC Santa Barbara and hit a career-best .688 against San Francisco with 11 kills and no errors. She has led the team in kills in half of the matches this season. Most recently, she tied for the high in kills with 13 against Weber State. She is averaging 2.84 kills per set, which ranks second among freshmen in the Pac-12.

Utah returns to the road for a pair of contests in Los Angeles. The Utes open action in LA with a match at USC on Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. MT in the Galen Center on Pac-12 Mountain. Utah turns around to play at UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. MT in Pauley Pavilion. The match will be live streamed.

SCOUTING COLORADO
Colorado heads into Pac-12 play with an 8-3 record, which is highlighted by wins over Colorado State, Wichita State, and Denver. The Buffs dropped matches to UNLV and Kansas in four sets, along with a five-set loss to Colorado State in the teams' first meeting of two. Colorado leads the Pac-12 and is 12
th in the nation with 2.82 blocks per set, while ranking 10
th in the country with a .298 hitting percentage (5
th in the Pac-12). Skyy Howard leads the Buffs in both of those categories as she is first in the Pac-12 and ninth in the nation with a .466 hitting percentage. Howard is also second in the conference and 24
th in the nation with 1.38 blocks per set.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA
Cal has jumped out to an 11-0 record after non-conference play with notable wins coming against Portland State, Saint Mary's, and Nevada. The Golden Bears lead the Pac-12 in assists per set, kills per set, and opponent hitting percentage. Cal is fourth in the country with 13.51 assists per set and sixth in kills per set with 14.41 k/s. Additionally, the Bears hold opponents to a .122 hitting percentage, which is third in the country through non-conference action. Annalea Maeder is fourth in the Pac-12 and 19
th in the country with 10.73 assists per set. Maggie Li is third in the Pac-12 and 30
th in the nation with 4.15 kills per set during her true freshman season so far.

Viktoria Wahlgren has earned the start in every match this season and ranks 67
th in the nation with 9.78 assists per set. Wahlgren earned her first career double-double against UC Santa Barbara as she posted 44 assists and a career high 15 digs. Wahlgren also recorded a career-best 46 assists and career-high three aces at Portland State. The Canadian setter for the Utes also leads the team with 10 aces. Behind her three aces at Portland State, Wahlgren has tallied two aces in three different matches.
