PARK CITY, Utah – In the first collegiate races held at the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at the Utah Olympic Park,
Kaja Norbye of the Utah Ski Team had a third-place slalom finish while three men placed in the top-10 on Wednesday as part of the Westminster Invitational.
It marked the start of the 2024 RMISA alpine schedule, as well as four straight days of alpine competition on the new hill. Athletes across the board were faced with challenging weather throughout much of the day but were able to push through, thanks in part to many assisting with course conditions.
Utah continues to lead the team standings of the Westminster Invitational, now totaling 477 points. The Utes are 58 points in front of second-place Denver, and 79 points ahead of Alaska Anchorage in third place.
Norbye's season debut bronze medal included a total time of 1:36.89. She sat sixth after the opening run, then won the afternoon (45.27) to vault up three places in the race standings and record her eighth podium as a Ute. Making her first start as a Ute,
Melanie Dahlberg placed in the top-10 (1:41.53).
"Coming back from an injury last year, I was not sure what I would be able to accomplish or where my level is at right now," Norbye said. "So it was a very pleasant surprise to be able to perform on a day like today, and a huge confidence boost going into the rest of this week's races!"
