Utes ranked No. 13, surpassing previous high of No. 15
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The USA Today and National Fastpitch Coaches Association released their annual preseason poll on Tuesday and the University of Utah softball team was placed at No. 13, the highest ranking the Utes have ever achieved in that preseason publication.
The Utes previously achieved spots in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll as high as No. 15 in 2018 and this ranking matches Utah's highest placement of the 2024 preseason so far, as they were the No. 13 team in the Softball America Top 25 as well. Utah was also the No. 14 squad in D1Softball's rankings and they landed 16th in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll.
This preseason recognition comes after the Utes spent the 2023 campaign logging a list of accomplishments that included the program's first College World Series appearance since 1994, the first-ever Pac-12 Tournament Championship and putting a program-record eight student-athletes on the all-conference roster. Coach Amy Hogue's squad also ended the year ranked as high as No. 7 in the national polls.
All 32 first-place votes in the USA Today/NFCA poll went to the two-time defending National Champion Oklahoma Sooners, followed by Tennessee in the No. 2 spot, Florida State and Stanford tied in third, and Clemson rounding out the top five. The list of Pac-12 rivals inside the top 25 include Washington at No. 7, UCLA at No. 10 and Oregon possessing the No. 15 slot.
