WACO, Texas –
Kennedy Proctor,
Mia Gomez and
Payton Crank all belted home runs and the University of Utah softball team scored an 8-2 triumph over the Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.
This win evens the series between the Utes and Bears, who will meet in the rubber match on Sunday. Utah's 2026 record is now 30-16-1 with a 6-10-1 conference mark.
"I think this team enjoys rain delays more than any I've ever coached," said coach
Amy Hogue. "We've played some of our best innings after rain delays and today it felt very good to get some insurance for Raci [Miranda]. Crank has been on fire and she blasted that last one.
"I'm the happiest for Anna [Reimers]. She has kept preparing herself to be ready when her number was called and she came up huge for us today."
In the circle, the Utes were carried by
Anna Reimers and
Raci Miranda, with the former starting her day by stranding two runners in scoring position in the first. Utah then moved in front thanks to a
Kayla Lyon RBI single in the top of the second.
The Bears did respond by taking the lead with two runs in the next half inning, but Reimers stifled their offense after that. She used a strikeout and two groundouts to strand a runner at third in the second and permitted only one hit over the next three frames.
Utah's offense, meanwhile, immediately tied the score when Proctor hit a laser over the right field wall in the third, her team-high 11th four-bagger of the year. Two innings later, Gomez nudged the visitors back into the lead when she launched one out to right, matching Proctor with her 11th clout of 2026. It was also her fourth go-ahead blast of the year.
After the squads sat through a weather delay of more than an hour, Miranda entered in the sixth and kept her side's 3-2 lead intact by stranding a pair in that inning, allowing Utah to then add some insurance. With two outs in the seventh, the Utes loaded the bases and
Cian Noli slapped a two-run single into left. The next hitter was Crank and she provided the coup de grâce, drilling a three-run homer to left. Miranda recorded the final three outs to notch her second save.
