SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball returned to the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Thursday evening, defeating #17 TCU to the tune of a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22) sweep. The Utes pick up their first top 25 win since 2022, defeating #24 USC in straight sets on Oct. 28. Utah will welcome in the #18 Baylor Bears on Saturday, Oct. 12, looking to tally back-to-back top 25 wins for the first time since 2019 after defeating #23 UCLA and #22 Washington State on the road.
Utah controlled the opening set, jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead, getting a pair of aces from
Claranne Fechter and
Grace Hammond, along with a kill from
Lauren Jardine. Utah put together a four-point run to take an 8-2 lead headlined by two kills from
Kamry Bailey. A kill from
Allie Olsen gave Utah their largest lead of the set at 14-7. An ace from
Emrie Satuala followed by a kill from
Rianne Vos kept Utah in front, 19-13. Utah maintained the lead the remainder of the set, holding on to take the 25-22 win.
Utah jumped ahead early in set two 4-2, with a pair of kills by
Kamryn Gibadlo. Back-to-back kills by Vos kept Utah in front 6-4. Utah and TCU continued the back-and-forth battle throughout the beginning of the set, before the Utes put together a four-point run getting help from two Bailey aces, giving the Utes a 12-8 lead. TCU answered back with a run of their own, tying the set at 12 apiece. Utah used two three-point runs, getting kills from Vos, Gibadlo, and Jardine giving the Utes an 18-13 advantage. The Utes would go on to take set two 25-22.
Utah came out swinging in the third set, looking to close the door on the Horned Frogs, taking an early 4-3 lead in set three, getting three kills from Gibadlo. Utah maintained the lead, 10-6, with the help of kills by Jardine and Vos. TCU would go on a five-point run to take an 11-10 lead, seeing first and only lead of the entire match. Utah answered back every TCU run with the help of three kills by Gibadlo. A four-point run by the Utes helped complete the sweep, giving Utah its third 25-22 win.
STANDOUT STATS
- Kamryn Gibadlo led the Utah attack for the fifth consecutive match and the 10th time this season. Gibadlo put away a team-high 13 kills on 27 attempts, finishing with a .333 hitting percentage.
- Rianne Vos (10) was the second Ute to tally double-digit kills on the evening. Vos posted a team-high .444 hitting percentage, finishing with just two errors on 18 swings.
- Four Utes finished with multiple blocks on the night, leading the effort was Emrie Satuala (3), Kamryn Gibadlo, Kamry Bailey and Allie Olsen each added two.
- Three Utes tallied multiple service aces on the night as Emrie Satuala, Kamry Bailey and Claranne Fechter each tallied two.
- The Ute offense ran through Isabelle Marco (19) and Grace Hammond (17), dishing out 36 of the 45 assists.
