SALT LAKE CITY – Utah men's basketball head coach
Craig Smith announced the signing of former Lone Peak High School guard Alvin Jackson III for the 2025-26 season.
"We're excited to welcome Alvin to the Runnin' Utes family," Smith said. "He is the type of player we love here at Utah. Alvin is hardworking, has tremendous IQ, has an array of skill sets on both ends of the floor and has a great competitive spirit to him. We can't wait to have Alvin on the Hill next fall!"
Jackson III, who is currently a freshman at Salt Lake CC, will join the Runnin' Utes next season. He spent his first two years Bethesda Chevy Chase High School before transferring to Lone Peak High School his junior year (2020-21) and then transferred back to Bethesda Chevy Chase his senior year.
As a senior, Jackson III led the Barons to the second round of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Class 4A Tournament. Bethesda Chevy Chase HS finished 14-3 that season while taking second in regional play with a 7-2 mark.
The Washington, D.C., native then served a two-year mission with the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints after graduation from 2022-24 in Las Vegas before signing on with Dave Rice's team at Salt Lake CC.
The 6-5 guard has started in all four games so far at SLCC, averaging 8.5 points and 2.3 rebounds with a .522 shooting clip – including an 18-point (4-of-5 3FGM) game against Harcum College.
Jackson III is the younger brother of Frank Jackson, who had a star-studded prep career before playing with Duke (2016-17) for one season. He was then selected in the second round with the 31st-overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2017 NBA Draft.
The Runnin' Utes are currently 3-0 to start the 2024-25 campaign and now hits the road for their first test against a Power 4 opponent in #RV/RV Mississippi State on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. (MT) on ESPN2.
