SALT LAKE CITY – Fourth-ranked Utah Gymnastics welcomed in #16 Oregon State to the Jon M. Huntsman Center for a top 25 Pac-12 showdown. The Red Rocks' commanding 197.750-196.100 win was highlighted by a milestone performance by
Maile O'Keefe on beam, earning her third 10.0 score of the season. With this score, O'Keefe joins legendary Red Rock gymnast Theresa Kulikowski at the top of the list for most perfect scores in a career with 14. This is the fourth event Utah has eclipsed the 197 mark on the season. It also marks the fifth meet this season in which the Red Rocks have scored above 49 in each event.
Camie Winger got the night started on vault for the Red Rocks, leading off with an opening score of 9.825. Utah would go to
Ella Zirbes in the second spot of the rotation, earning a score of 9.775. Coming off her first event win against Arizona State a week ago,
Ashley Glynn completed a vault of 9.875. The Red Rocks saw their first of three consecutive 9.9 scores, starting with
Makenna Smith capturing a 9.925.
Jaedyn Rucker had a big bounce-back vault for the Red Rocks, securing the top spot in the event with a score of 9.975. With some mid-rotation shuffling of the lineup,
Jaylene Gilstrap stepped into the sixth spot, scoring a 9.925 for Utah.
With one rotation down, Utah would take .350 lead over the Beavers, 49.525-49.175. Both Rucker and Gilstrap hit season-high marks on their vault during the first event. For Gilstrap, this was her career-best in this event, topping her score of 9.850. Rucker hit her season-best on vault and first score of 9.9 or above through the early going of the 2024 campaign.
Smith took her spot at the top of the order as the Red Rocks moved over to bars, earning a score of 9.875.
Alani Sabado worked her way back into Utah's bars lineup, scoring a 9.775 for the second time this season, matching her second-highest score that came at the Best of Utah.
Amelie Morgan scored her second consecutive 9.875 on bars, in the third spot of the lineup for the Red Rocks. Zirbes would deal with some adversity at the beginning of her routine, taking a store of 9.025.
Maile O'Keefe would take her routine to review, bumping her score up to 9.675.
Grace McCallum injected some energy back into the building claiming her fourth event win on bars of the season, scoring a 9.950 and matching her season-high which she set at the Best of Utah.
After a little struggle on bars for Utah, scores got a little closer between the Red Rocks and Beavers through two rotations. Utah still maintained the advantage over Oregon State, 98.675-98.525.
Amelie Morgan took the lead on beam for the Red Rocks, scoring a 9.825 to get the third rotation started for Utah. Smith upped the ante just slightly with her second-highest beam score of the season, earning a 9.850, after scoring back-to-back 9.875s at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad and Best of Utah. McCallum pushed the envelope even more, earning her second score of 9.9-plus on the evening, scoring a 9.925.
Abby Paulson had her fourth consecutive 9.9 in her sights when she stepped onto the beam, and she delivered a 9.925 for the second in a row of the rotation for the Red Rocks. O'Keefe about blew the roof off the Huntsman Center, sticking her landing for her third perfect 10.0 score of the season. With a large performance to follow, Gilstrap added the fourth score of 9.9 or better for the Red Rocks, posting her season-high on the apparatus with a 9.925.
After the third rotation, Utah extended their commanding lead over Oregon State, 148.200-146.875.
Smith stepped back into the leadoff spot as the Red Rocks moved to their turn on floor, getting the 'dance party' started with a 9.875. Gilstrap broke the 9.9 barrier for the first time this season, posting her season-high 9.900. For the third meet in a row, Paulson performed a floor routine that scored a 9.925 matching her season and career-high. Rucker took a stumble on one of her passes, scoring a 9.125. O'Keefe carried the momentum over from beam to floor, matching her season-high from the season opener and Best of Utah with a 9.950. McCallum rounded out the night with the fourth 9.9 of the rotation for the Red Rocks, scoring a 9.900.
Utah Gymnastics continues Pac-12 play on the road at the University of Washington, competing in Seattle on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Utes and Huskies will compete at 1 p.m. MT at Alaska Airlines Arena and will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
