SAN FRANCISCO – A pair of Red Rocks picked up Pac-12 weekly awards on Tuesday as
Abby Paulson earned her first Pac-12 Specialist of the Week honor of the season and
Ella Zirbes secured her first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week nod.
Paulson has been the definition of consistency for Utah on beam and floor this season, scoring a 9.975 on beam and earning a share of the top spot against Stanford. With this score, Paulson secured a share of her fourth win on the apparatus. This was Paulson's seventh meet in a row with a score of 9.9+ and her fourth meet of 9.95+ this season on beam. Paulson got the Red Rocks lineup started on floor for the first time this season, opening the rotation with a 9.925, collecting a third-place finish in the event.
This is Paulson's first Specialist of the Week award since Feb. 2, 2021, after posting season highs on bars, beam, and floor.
Zirbes had three career personal bests on vault, bars, and floor as the Red Rocks defeated Stanford University on Friday night, 198.075-196.625. Zirbes scored a 9.925 on vault, eclipsing the 9.9+ mark for the first time this season on vault, and finished 2
nd on the event. Zirbes added another 9.925 and career-high of the night on bars. In just her third floor performance of the season, Zirbes posted another new career-high with a score of 9.950. Zirbes earned the second Freshman of the Week award for the Red Rocks squad, following teammate
Camie Winger's honor on Jan. 16.
This was the first time two Utah gymnasts have been named to the weekly award list since Feb. 14, 2023, when
Maile O'Keefe Pac-12 Specialist of the Week and
Makenna Smith earned the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week nod.
