SALT LAKE CITY – Utah head men's basketball coach
Craig Smith announced the addition of San Francisco transfer Mike Sharavjamts (SHAR-iv-jomps) for the upcoming season.
Â
He becomes the sixth player to transfer into the Runnin' Utes program this offseason, joining Keanu Dawes, Mason Madsen, Zach Keller, Miro Little and Ezra Ausar.
Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Mike to the University of Utah men's basketball program," Smith said. "He has exceptional length and a versatile skillset that allows him to make an impact anywhere on the court. Mike is a dynamic and intelligent player with a bright future ahead of him. We can't wait to see what he will accomplish with us here at the University of Utah."
Â
Sharavjamts comes to Salt Lake City after spending his sophomore season (2023-24) at San Francisco where he saw action in all 34 games and averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists to go with 32 steals and 15 blocks. He recorded a career-high 18 points against Seattle U at home after going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for 10 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in his debut at USF. The 6-8 guard helped the Dons advance to the semifinals of the WCC Tournament before earning an NIT bid this past year.
Â
The Mongolian native played his freshman season at Dayton (2022-23) where he was just the second true freshman to start in a season-opener for Dayton in the last 10 years since DaRon Holmes. During his time with the Flyers, he suited up in 32-of-34 games and started in 20 of those games while averaging 5.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Â
He made his collegiate debut against Lindenwood in the opener, scoring 10 points with 3 rebounds, 5 assists and zero turnovers. His season-high in points that year came against BYU where he scored 15 points in the Battle 4 Atlantis. He dished out a career-high 8 assists as a freshman three different times. The dynamic guard would enter his name into the draft at the end of his freshman season before withdrawing from the draft and transferring to USF.
Â
Sharavjamts was a unanimous four-star recruit according to the major recruiting websites at the prep level. He played his senior season at the International Sports Academy where he shot a .512 clip from 3-point range and averaged 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 24 games.
Â
He would go on to play as a member of the World Team in the 2022 Nike Hoop Summit. He also captained the Mongolian U18 team that finished sixth in the 2019 World 3x3 Championships – which happened to be hosted in his hometown of Ulaanbaatar.
Â
Sharavjamts' father Sharavjamts Tserenjankhar, a 7-footer known as The Mongolian Shark became the first Asian Harlem Globetrotter when he signed with the team in 2001.
