FT. WORTH, Texas – The Utah men's basketball team picked up its second-straight win in Big 12 play Wednesday night as it snapped TCU's nine-game home win-streak with a 73-65 win inside Schollmaier Arena.
Utah (10-6, 2-3 Big 12) was aggressive early on and led the entire first half against the Horned Frogs thanks to its unselfish play on offense, assisting on 81.8-percent (9-of-11) of its shots. The defense also helped spark things on offense with Utah holding TCU to just a .333 shooting clip.
Gabe Madsen gave the Utes their largest lead of the half with about 5:21 left to play after scoring back-to-back baskets – including a corner three near the TCU bench thanks to an offensive board from
Zach Keller.
The Runnin' Utes got out of the gates in the second frame with a quick 8-0 run to force the Horned Frogs (9-7, 2-3 Big 12) to call a timeout just 1:42 into the half.
Lawson Lovering pushed Utah's edge to 45-31 shortly after for its largest lead of the contest before the 12:06 media break rolled around with the Utes on top, 47-38.
Keanu Dawes was a force for the Runnin' Utes in the second-half, scoring 10 of his 16 points in a span of about six minutes in the latter portion of the frame to keep the Utes on top. Utah finished strong at the charity stripe to ice the game, knocking down eight-straight to seal the win.
Madsen finished with a team-high 17 points behind a 7-for-9 night at the line while Dawes picked up his second-straight game with 16 points off the bench – this time on 7-of-10 shooting for the Utes. Lovering also had a solid night for the Utes, scoring 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting with 5 boards and a pair of blocks.
Mike Sharavjamts rounded things out with 10 points on 2-of-4 from deep.
