CINCINNATI, Ohio – Junior outside hitter
Kamryn Gibadlo posted an outstanding double-double effort (her 10th of the season) for Utah Volleyball Wednesday evening that unfortunately wasn't enough to overtake Cincinnati on the road.
Despite taking the second set to force at least four sets, the Utes fell to the Bearcats, 1-3 at Fifth Third Arena (10-25, 25-22, 16-25, 16-25).
SET ONE
Cincinnati took a quick 5-0 lead, forcing Utah to take a timeout early in the first set.
Katelynn Field got the Utes' first point of the set off a kill, followed shortly by a Gibadlo ace to make it 5-2 before the Bearcats went on a 7-0 run.
Utah was never able to fully recover and took a 25-10 first set loss.
SET TWO
Utah challenged a pancake dig that went in their favor to tie things at three early in the second set before taking their first lead of the match 4-3.
Despite playing much better, the Bearcats were not about to let the Utes go without a fight, forcing five ties and four lead changes.
Utah eventually got the job done, tying up the set count at one after an
Emrie Moea'i kill and an error by Cincinnati to cement a 25-22 victory.
SET THREE
The Utes took an early 3-1 lead in set three, but Cincinnati didn't go down easy taking a late 22-16 advantage.
Three plays later, the Bearcats iced the set, 25-16.
SET FOUR
Utah and Cincinnati entered a tight fourth-set battle before the Bearcats began to pull away, 11-7.
The Utes attempted to claw their way back, but despite Gibadlo's stellar performance (20 kills and 11 digs), the Bearcats walked away with a 25-16 set win, and a 3-1 match victory.
