Utah Drops Decisions to UCSD 4-3

LA JOLLA - The University of Utah women's tennis team fell to UC San Diego in a tight 4-3 match on Sunday afternoon, moving the Utes record to 5-4.Â
Utah struggled in doubles competition. The Tritons claimed victories over the Utes on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, securing the doubles point advantage in their direction.Â
Utah built momentum in singles play, with Hayley Roberts securing a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Adriana Tabares at No. 5. Kaila Barksdale followed up by topping Kelly Leung 6-3, 6-2 on court two. After the Tritons claimed the No. 1 court, Emma Valletta defeated Grace Gamal 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in the third spot which brought the match score to 3-2 in the Utes' favor.Â
UCSD then claimed a win on court six to even the score. The match was decided on court No. 4, as Dylan Lolofie fought valiantly in a closely contested tiebreak, but ultimately fell 6-3, 7-6(3) to Allison Lian.Â
NEXT UP
The Utes will next begin conference play in Arizona, where they will take on Arizona State on Feb. 27 and Arizona on Mar. 1.Â
