SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball impressed off the court as much as they did on it in the 2024-25 season, earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or higher.
"Success in the classroom and on the court are hard to separate," said Utah Volleyball head coach
Beth Launiere. "When student-athletes excel in both, it often means they are a disciplined and committed group of individuals. This certainly was the case with the 2024 team. I am proud of their accomplishments in the classroom as we continually work to prepare them for life after collegiate athletics."
The Utes are part of a growing contingent of teams in the sport (1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball programs in 2025) emphasizing the importance of academic excellence along with on-court success.
This isn't the first time Utah Volleyball has been recognized as a power in the classroom over the past academic year.
Back in December, the Utes
placed four student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District list and
were recognized department-wide for Utah Athletics' third-best all-time semester GPA in January.
Additionally,
Utah Volleyball had nine student-athletes qualify for the 2024 Fall Academic All-Big 12 team and were
recognized by the NCAA in May for earning a perfect 1000 single-year Academic Progress Rate score.
Utah Volleyball's major successes in the classroom comes on the heels of a very productive first season in the Big 12, finishing third in their new conference with a 25-6 overall record, their 19
th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and a No. 23 final ranking in the AVCA poll.
The Utes are preparing to return to the court next month, starting with an exhibition against the Texas Longhorns on Friday, August 15 at 12 p.m. MT.
