CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. –
Raci Miranda twirled her first complete game shutout as a Ute, a two-hit gem that helped the University of Utah softball team best the UC Riverside Highlanders, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at the Big League Dreams Sports Complex in Cathedral City, Calif.
Utah's 2026 ledger now has them at 11-5.
Through five innings, this contest was a staring match between Miranda and UC Riverside's Lauren Mendez. Mendez held the Utes to a single hit over the first five frames, while Miranda allowed two hits, struck out four and at one point set down 13-in-a-row.
It wasn't until the sixth that Utah broke through.
Mia Gomez singled with one out and pinch-runner
Sianni Sakai then stole second. With two outs,
Emily Capobianco laced a single into the right field corner, plating Sakai with the go-ahead run.
Miranda then completed her masterpiece with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Both of the hits she allowed were singles and she ended the day by retiring the last eight hitters she faced and 21 of the last 22. Miranda struck out five and set down the side in order five times.
