Last Time Out
Utah is coming off one of their most impressive weekends of the season, taking two of three from No. 19/20 Arizona. It marked Utah's second series win over a ranked team in 2026, as they started Big 12 play with a sweep of No. 21/22 Arizona State.
Hailey Maestretti was the star in the circle, becoming the first Ute since 2024 to get a win over a ranked team on consecutive days. She threw a complete game and held the Wildcats to one run on Saturday, then fired six innings of two run ball in a 10-2 Utah win on Sunday. Her ERA for the week was 1.62 across 13 innings, decreasing her mark for the season to 2.38, which ranks fourth in the Big 12. For her efforts, Maestretti was named Pitcher of the Week by D1Softball and Softball America.
At the plate,
Kennedy Proctor was a one-person wrecking crew. She went 6-for-10 against the Wildcats and homered three times. Two of those came in Sunday's clincher, her second multi-homer game of the season. Proctor's 14 homers in 2026 is the most by a Ute in a single year since Ellessa Bonstrom blasted 14 in 2021.
Scouting the Opposition
Utah and Oklahoma State will be renewing acquaintances on the same field where the teams met in the 2023 Women's College World Series. The 2026 version of the Cowgirls earned the tournament's second seed by going 16-8 in Big 12 play and 37-14 overall. Since the middle of April, OSU has built one of the sport's most impressive resumes, defeating both Oklahoma and Texas and taking two of three from Arizona.
No one has been a bigger star for the Cowgirls in 2026 than All-American candidate Ruby Meylan. Only one hurler in the nation can claim more than Meylan's 26 wins and she's maintained a spot near the top of the league leaderboard in strikeouts and ERA all year. Among other accolades, her numbers have netted her multiple Big 12 Pitcher of the week awards during the current campaign.

Journey of a 1000 Games
Thursday's tournament opener will be
Amy Hogue's 1000th game as Utah softball head coach. Earlier in the season, she reached two new milestones, winning her 500th game as Utah head coach on Feb. 26 and collecting the 700th victory of her coaching career on Feb. 28.
Momma Mia!
On April 15 against Montana,
Mia Gomez clouted the 10th home run of her freshman season. She's just the fifth rookie in program history to reach double figures in homers, joining a list that includes Melissa Stahnke, Kara Foster, Karlie Davison and Whitney Holm.
Multi-Homer History
In Utah's win over Arizona on Sunday,
Kennedy Proctor put up her second multi-homer performance of the season. She previously went yard twice against CSUN on Feb. 20. Proctor is the first Ute to post two multi-homer games in the same season since Whitney Holm in 2011.
A Maz-sterful Job
Hailey Maestretti has spent her sophomore year establishing herself as one of the Big 12's best pitchers. One of the stats that bears that out is her six shutouts, the conference's third-highest total. It is also the most by a Ute in a single season since Kristin Arbogast in 2001.
Racking Up Shutouts
The Utes have posted 15 shutouts in 2026, their most as a team since they blanked 17 opponents in 2017.
Knocking off No. 1
On April 11, The Utes earned a 4-0 win over then-No. 1 Texas Tech, the program's first win over the nation's top-ranked team since 2017.
Hailey Maestretti threw a complete game shutout against the Red Raiders, becoming the first pitcher in 2026 to shut out TTU for seven innings.
On-Base Honors
With her seventh-inning single against Oklahoma State on March 27,
Mia Gomez became the program's new record holder for consecutive games reaching base safely with 34. She later extended that streak to 36 games, the longest such streak of any freshman during the 2026 season.
Gomez is not the only rookie Ute who's put together a lengthy on-base streak however. Fellow rookie
Danika Wilson recorded an on-base streak of 24 consecutive contests, which ended on April 10.
POTW Awards
The Utes have been piling up weekly awards of late, the most recent being
Payton Crank's Freshman of the Week award on April 21.
Danika Wilson collected her second Freshman of the Week honor on March 24. Wilson is the first Ute to win two freshman of the week awards since Abby Dayton in 2023.
Shelbee Jones was the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week last week. On March 10,
Mia Gomez was named Softball on SI's Freshman of the Week and Wilson took home her first Big 12 Freshman of the Week award on March 2. Gomez won Utah's first weekly honor of the season on Feb. 17, when she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
Jones Tosses a No-Hitter
On March 11,
Shelbee Jones fired the 32nd no-hitter in program history, blanking Abilene Christian over five innings in a 13-0 Utah win. She retired the side in order in each of the first three frames and struck out the side in the second. A two-out walk in the fourth inning was the only baserunner the Wildcats would manage before Jones closed the afternoon in style. She added two more punchouts to her total in the fifth, including one for the final out, her ninth of the day.
How Sweep It Is
Utah's thrashing of Arizona State represented the program's first road sweep of a ranked team since they took three from No. 13 Oregon in 2023. Utah's 35 runs in three games was their highest total in a series of three games or less since 1996 and it included their largest win over a ranked team ever in the form of a 15-0 rout on Saturday.
Proctor Power
Kennedy Proctor started March quite the power display, homering in three straight games on March 1, March 4 and March 6, all in Utah wins. Proctor is the first Utah player to go deep in three straight games since Ellessa Bonstrom in 2023.
Lighting Up the Thunderbirds
Against Southern Utah, the Utes cracked five homers, their most in a single game since 2020 and the 18 runs they scored were Utah's most in a single game since they also scored 18 in a 2012 win over North Dakota.
Double Dare
Kennedy Proctor added her name to the school record book on Feb. 14, when she clocked three doubles at the expense of Illinois State. She was the sixth player in Utah history to log a performance like that and the first since Kelly Martinez in 2018.
Triple Threat
In Utah's first game of 2026,
Hailee White stenciled her name into the program record book. With two triples against UC Riverside, White became the 12th player in school history to record two three-baggers in one game and the first since Abby Dayton in 2024.
