- Made 15 starts including the second half of the year as the Friday starter, finishing 5-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 69 strikeouts.
- His ERA led the Pac-12 and ranked 12th in the nation.
- Ranked third in the Pac-12 with 94.1 innings pitched, fourth in opponent batting average (.221), second in WHIP (1.06), third in walks allowed per nine (2.0) and fourth in hits allowed per nine (7.54).
- Led the league for innings pitched in conference play (66.1) and was second in conference-only ERA (2nd; 2.44).
- Tossed complete games at Arizona State (April 12) and vs. Arizona (May 10), becoming the first Ute since 2008 to have multiple CGs in the same season.
- Moved into the Friday spot in the rotation in early April; over his next eight outings he turned in six quality starts.
- His CG at ASU on April 12 was a “Maddux”; that is, a shutout on less than 100 pitches. He needed just 82 pitches to three-hit the Sun Devils, striking out eight and walking none. ASU never got the leadoff man aboard or put a runner in scoring position.
- Capped off his career with an outstanding outing in the Pac-12 Tournament vs. Oregon (May 22), going seven innings with one earned run allowed on four hits and a walk, striking out six.
2023 – Redshirt Junior
- Went 3-5 in 18 appearances (10 starts), tallying a 5.59 ERA in 67.2 innings pitched.
- Struck out a team-leading 68 batters against 23 walks.
- Led Pac-12 pitchers with five runners picked off.
- Fanned a career-high 10 batters in the series-opening win vs. Oregon (May 18), dealing six innings.
- Had another six-inning start in the win over Cal Poly (May 12), striking out seven and walking just one against four runs.
- Pitched five shutout innings out of the bullpen vs. Arizona State (March 19), scattering four hits on the way to the win.
- Came on in relief at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 26), finishing the game with five innings of two-run ball and earning the win with eight K’s and one walk.
2022 – Redshirt Sophomore
- Went 3-0 in 15 relief appearances during his first season as a Ute.
- Struck out 33 batters in 30.2 innings on the bump against nine walks.
- Matched his longest outing going four innings at CSU Bakersfield (March 5), allowing one run on five hits, a walk and a season-best eight K’s.
- First Pac-12 win came in the middle game vs. Washington (March 12), going 3.1 innings of one-hit ball with six K’s and no walks.
- Made his Utah debut with a four-inning win at Loyola Marymount (Feb. 19), spotting just a run on two hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
- Came in during the middle innings at BYU (May 17) and ultimately earned the win.
Prior to Utah
- Transferred to Utah from Labette Community College where he played the 2020 and ’21 seasons.
- Started five of his 10 games played in 2021, working 45 innings with a 4.00 ERA and 71 strikeouts.
Prior to College
- Attended Westlake High School, playing for Ben Byrd and Taylor McFarland.
- Earned All-State First Team honors and was named the Utah 6A All-Star Game Offensive MVP.
- Went 5-0 on the mound his senior year with 69 strikeouts and a 1.25 ERA.
Personal
- Son of Bryan and Candice Van Sickle.
- Has three siblings, Blakli, Drayton and Talon.
- Enjoys many outdoor activities including fly fishing and hunting.
