- Went to Ida B. Wells High School in Oregon, playing for Jeremy Shetler.
- Named Athlete of the Year as a senior and All-State First Team as a reliever.
- Also earned All-League First Team his senior year both as a pitcher and first baseman.
- Selected All-League as a junior both at pitcher and first base, as well as Defensive Player of the Year.
- Ranked as the No. 7 player in Oregon for his class by Baseball Northwest.
- Played football in high school.
