Kim Tillie returns to SLC to join the Runnin’ Utes staff as a graduate student manager under first-year head coach Alex Jensen in 2025.
Tillie is back in Wasatch Front after spending the past 14 years (2010-14) playing professional basketball in the top leagues throughout Europe. He started his professional career with ASVEL (2010-12) just outside of Lyon, France, and was able to close out his stellar career back in his home country with Cholet (2022-24).
Tillie was also a member of the French Men’s National Team, helping Les Bleus to a bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup. He also had the privilege of representing France in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio De Jeneiro. As a member of the junior national team, he helped the French U18 team capture gold at the FIBA U18 European Championships in Greece. They would follow up with a bronze medal at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Cup in Serbia.
During his as a Ute, Tillie averaged 4.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting .479 from the field. As a junior, he helped the Runnin’ Utes capture a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season title and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. His sophomore campaign saw the Utes advance to the CBI Quarterfinals. Tillie was also a standout in the classroom, earning Academic All-Mountain West all four years.
The Tillies are arguably one of the most athletically talented families in all of France and starts from the top with both father, Laurent, and mother, Caroline (Keulen). His mother, Caroline, was a captain for the Dutch Women’s National Team (volleyball) while his father is a distinguished player and coach on the international stage. Meanwhile, his uncle Patrice also represented France in water polo at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.
Father, Laurent, is a two-time Olympian, representing France in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, and the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. He would go on to play in 407 international matches for Les Bleus and had a long professional career from 1980-2002 before moving over to the coaching side.
As a coach, Laurent capped off his time with the French Men’s National Team by helping them capture gold at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. During his tenure with Les Bleus, he won four gold medals, one silver and two bronze in international tournaments. Laurent was recently named the head coach for the Japanese Men’s National in December of 2024 with sights set for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
His two younger brothers have also had successful athletic careers of their own. The middle brother, Kevin, was a two-time NCAA National Champion in men’s volleyball at UC Irvine (2012-13) before going on to be a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist with France (2020, 2024) – including his first alongside their father Laurent in 2020.
His youngest brother, Killian, played four seasons at Gonzaga at the height of the program’s incredible run under head coach Mark Few. Killian averaged 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting .548 from the field and .444 from 3-point range in his collegiate career. He went on to play two seasons as an undrafted free agent with the Memphis Grizzlies (2020-22) and is currently play professionally in Spain for Unicaja Baloncesto.
Tillie married to his wife Lindsie, who he met during his time at Utah, in 2014 and have two sons, Liam and Cooper. His wife Lindsie was a pitcher with the Utah softball team and graduated from the U in 2007. Tillie graduated from the University of Utah in 2010 with a degree in urban planning.
