SAN DIEGO (AP) - Jeremy Killion scored a career-high 23 points in a return to his hometown Saturday night, leading Utah past San Diego State 79-53 for its seventh straight victory.
Killion, who played his high school basketball in San Diego, made five three-point shots in 11 tries in topping his previous scoring best of 18 points against Michigan earlier this season.
The Utes (12-4, 2-0 WAC) made 11 3-point shots in a school-record 34 attempts, topping the previous mark of 30 set in the 1993-94 season.
Andre Miller had 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, and Hanno Mottola scored 16 points for Utah, which held a 40-23 halftime advantage and outscored the Aztecs 13-4 to start the second half for a 53-27 lead.
The Utes topped San Diego State (2-14, 0-4) for the seventh consecutive time and the 15th time in the last 16 games between the schools. Matt Watts scored 15 points for the Aztecs, who continued their poorest start since they went 2-23 in the 1985-86 season.
San Diego State fell despite a 14-point advantage at the free-throw line. The Aztecs went 18-of-23, while Utah was 4-of-7.
Utah went without a free throw in the first half as the Aztecs committed just two fouls, the first with 4:05 left.
The Utes made their first three shots including 3-pointers by Killion and Miller to take an 8-0 lead. San Diego State missed four field goal tries before Vince Okotie sank a 12-foot jumper to cut Utah's lead to 10-3.
