SALT LAKE CITY - Jeremy Killion scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half, and Hanno Mottola had 16 points and eight rebounds as Utah pounded Loyola Marymount 89-55 on Saturday night.
A mere blowout loss turned into an embarrassment for the Lions midway through the second half when Utah made a 16-0 run and held Loyola Marymount scoreless for 5:39. Andre Miller, who finished with 14 points and eight assists, had six points and three assists during the run.
Utah (6-4) fell out of the Top 25 this week for the first time since 1994. Saturday's win was the Utes' first game since losing 73-68 to a 1-5 Texas team on Dec. 12 and dropping to 26th in the Associated Press poll.
Loyola Marymount (4-5) was playing just its third road game of the year, while the Runnin' Utes, who have won three of their last four, played only their third home game of the season. Utah has won 21 of the 22 meetings between the schools.
All five Utah starters finished in double figures, and the Utes shot 57.4 percent in the game, including 64 percent in the second half. Freshman Phil Cullen had five of Utah's nine blocked shots.
Utah led 38-22 at halftime, and Killion hit four 3-pointers in the first 3:48 of the second half to put the Utes up 52-28. Mottola and Alex Jensen, who finished with 12 points and six rebounds, each had two 3-pointers on the night.
Forward Ed Wolfe was the Lions' only bright spot. He scored 11 of Loyola Marymount's 22 first half points and finished with a team-best 21 points and six rebounds. The Lions shot 29.5 percent and made 14 turnovers.
Junior college transfer Tony Harvey, who sat out the first nine games of the season for undisclosed disciplinary reasons, made his Utah debut early in the first half.
Harvey scored his first collegiate points on a breakaway dunk off a pass from Miller. The basket capped a 15-4 run and gave the Utes a 24-13 lead.
