SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team trampled Portland State 4-0.
The Utes out shot the Vikings 29-2, including 13 shots on goal. The U. goalkeeping duo of Tawni Martineau and Sarah Englis defended the Utes second shutout of the season.
The Utes are now 3-1.
Utah hit the field hard, scoring it's first goal at the 3:44 mark when freshman Alli Cerruti struck a pass by Lorrie Tipton. Five minutes later, Staci Burt claimed an unassisted goal when she lured the goalkeeper out of the box for the score. Senior Dominique Barcellona claimed her first goal of the season taking a pass from freshman Amy Kofoed and Utah veteran Jaime Zemla scored the game-winning-goal at the end of the first half when she took a ball from fellow senior Yolanda Yrizarris.
Utah returns to Ute Field Sun., Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. as they host Colorado.
