SEATTLE, Wash.- The Utah women's soccer team defeated Washington 3-2 in sudden-death overtime. The Huskies scored twice within the first 25 minutes of the game. Utah retaliated when junior Staci Burt rallied a solo shot gained from an intercepted ball at the 33:59 mark. Utah defender Becky Hatch put in an unassisted goal minutes later taking a 30 yard shot. The score remained tied through the second half resulting in the Utes first overtime match of the season. Utah clinched the win in double overtime when Burt slammed a pass from Mondis Ariazand. Overall, the Huskies outshot the Utes 24-14. Utah goalkeeper Tawni Martineau saved nine shots on goal and allowed two. She owns a 4-2 season record.
The Utes return home Thurs., Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m. to play Montana. The game will be held at Ute Field.
