LOGAN, Utah - It may have taken five games, but the Utah volleyball team persevered to pick up its 10th win of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Utah State 15-9, 9-15, 15-7, 11-15, 15-10 at the Dee Glen Smith Center.
Sophomore outside hitter Kalani Tonga led the Utes (10-3) with 18 kills, a .317 hitting percentage, nine digs and four blocks. Stacie Greenwalt had 14 kills with a .321 hitting percentage and eight blocks. Senior outside hitter Sara Shakula posted 13 kills and eight digs. Setter Graciela Torres had 49 assists and 10 digs.
Tiffany Kitley led the Aggies (3-8) with 12 kills, four digs and four blocks. Utah outhit its cross-state rivals .216 to .182, and had the edge at the net, 12 blocks to 11.
Utah faces its stiffest challenge of the season on Friday night, hosting No. 5 Brigham Young (10-1) at 7:00 p.m. at Crimson Court. The Utes are tied for 33rd in the USA Today/AVCA Poll released on Monday.
