Utah shot out of the gate early, notching a goal 8:50 into the contest. Junior Amy Kofoed took a pass from sophomore Shauna Gurr for her 13th goal of the season. Gurr increased the lead less than 10 minutes later, when she sent the ball home on a feed from Kofoed. Wyoming adjusted in the second half and scored in the 50th minute on a goal by Sara Stephens. Kofoed responded that with her 14th tally of the season, unassisted in the 54th minute. The Utes appeared to have everything under control, when a controversial goal tightened things up. Wyoming's Kelly McShane rebounded a ball in the 59th minute to close to within one. The goal was her 10th on the year, a Cowboy school record for a season. Ute goalkeeper Lynnsey Asay actually made the save on the ball. Her body was in the goal, however, the ball never appeared to cross the plain. Nonetheless, the line judge awarded the score. The goal proved to be vital after Katrina Morton hit the back of the net with a header for the Cowboys, but a Wyoming player had infringed on the goalie and the play was ruled dead.
"We controlled a tough game," said Coach Amy Winslow. "I was really proud of the team. It became a pressure game, but we kept our heads and wore the clock down. We were able to get two good early goals and took it to them in the first half."
With a win on Sunday at Air Force, Utah will get the No. 2 nod for the MWC Tournament. The game is at 1 p.m.
