Honolulu, Hawaii - The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated ends its season with a 3-0 (15-12, 15-8, 15-8) loss to the No. 3 ranked Hawaii in the second round of the NCAA tournament, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Fri., Dec. 1. The Utes finish up with a 23-8 overall record, 10-4 in the MWC. Hawaii improves to 29-1 overall, 16-0 in the WAC.
Utah was led by junior Lenka Urbanova who tallied 11 kills and nine digs. Freshman Kim Turner racked-up 10 kills for a .321 hitting percentage and four total blocks. Adrianne Bradley-Drake totaled 12 digs and teammate Alisa Geddes added 11 digs. Setter Lucie Turkova notched 36 assists, 12 digs and four total blocks. As a team Utah hit for .207 and added 7.5 total team blocks.
Hawaii was led by freshman Kim Willoughby, who recorded 19 kills for a .586 hitting percentage, 12 digs and three total blocks. Lily Kahumoku notched 15 kills and six digs and Melissa Villaroman added 11 digs. Jessica Sudduth tallied 11 kills and 20 digs. Setter Jennifer Carey posted 50 assists in the match. Hawaii hit for .297 in the match and added five total team blocks.
"I think we put together a great season," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "I felt like we played very well tonight, we just couldn't get it done. I thought Hawaii played really well. They served very tough and passed very well. They won the serve-pass game and that's why they beat us. I was really proud of our team, I thought we competed hard. We came out really aggressive, I don't think we let up any, Hawaii just did some things that we couldn't match."
