Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women's volleyball team announced the signing of two prep recruits Wednesday. Head Coach Beth Launiere received National Letters of Intent from Kim Turner and Jackie Morrill.
Turner is a 6-2 middle blocker from Chandler, Arizona, where she was a 1999 first-team all-region and all-state selection. Turner was listed in the American Volleyball Report as one of the "Top 75 Recruits." She was Phoenix's Fox News Athlete of the Week and a Scholar-Athlete award recipient. Turner played for Arizona East Valley team that placed second at the USA Junior National Volleyball Championships in 1999. She narrowed her choice of schools down to Utah and Arizona State before signing with the U.
Morrill is a 5-9 setter/outside hitter from Roosevelt, Utah. She was a 1999 3-A Salt Lake Tribune MVP and first-team all-state selection her sophomore, junior and senior year. Morrill was a state finalist for Wendy's Heisman award in 1999. She was a first-team all-state basketball selection in 1998 and an all-state softball selection her freshman, sophomore and junior year.
"Kim has established herself as one of the top recruits in the country and we're really happy to have her in our program," said Launiere. "Jackie is an all around athlete with a lot of talent in many different areas. Both recruits come into the program with very high GPAs and bring not only athleticism but character with them. Our program has gotten better each year bringing us to higher level of play, and this recruiting class takes us to that next level."
