Salt Lake City - Utah Volleyball's Assistant Coach Cory Solomon and student-athlete Brenda Beal participated in the 2000 Sibillini Tournament, July 2-8, in Rome, Italy. The international tournament featured eight teams from the Czech Republic, Hungry, Slovakia, Yugoslavia, two USA teams and two Italian teams.
Solomon coached one of the U.S. teams, Volleyhut.com, which took first place overall. Volleyhut.com defeated a team from Belgrade, Yugoslavia in the finals to capture the tournament crown.
"All eight teams were comparable to the Top 25 teams in Division I athletics. Our team was made up of many all-conference athletes and they played very well together. The competition was very tough in the finals. The Belgrade team beat us 3-0 in pool play and we came back to beat them in four games to win the tournament. It was an excellent opportunity and a great experience," says Solomon.
Beal's team, About.com, finished fifth overall.
