Utes Win Exhibition In Season Opener

Logan-The Defending Co-Mountain West Conference Champion University of Utah women's soccer team opens the 2000 season with great expectations. In an exhibition against in-state rival Utah State, the Utes hope the 3-1 victory was an inclination of more things to come.

Junior Alli Cerruti showed Utah the net early knocking in a pass from sophomore Shauna Gurr. Utah dominated through the remainder of the game as junior Amy Kofoed followed suit, striking twice in the second half. The Ute defense didn't break down until the 82nd minute when Ally Clegg punched in a goal for the Aggies. Utah State was stymied by the Ute defense getting off only eight shots. Goalkeeper Courtney Hills turned back seven of the attempts.

Utah will host Dixie College in an exhibition Wed., Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. at Ute Field. The Utes travel to Pocatello, Idaho Aug. 25 to open its regular season against Idaho State at 5 p.m.
