COLUMBIA, SC - The Utah women's soccer (5-3-1) team braved a wicked rain and fought off South Carolina (2-7) to extend its win streak to four games, 2-1 at Stone Stadium. Under heavy rain conditions that produced a soaked field, Utah's leading scorer sophomore Katie Tate drew first blood in the 32nd minute from eight yards out. The Gamecocks scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute, but junior Amy Kofoed gave Utah its first win of the season when the Utes have been down or tied. Kofoed dribbled the game-winner down field on a breakaway and sneaked the ball into the back right corner with three minutes to play. "It didn't really come down to a soccer game today," said Coach Amy Winslow. "The rain was awful. It was one of those things you could laugh about if someone didn't have to win or lose. Give the team credit, it gutted a game out today." Utah takes its streak to another Southeastern Conference school Sunday to play Georgia (5-3-1) at 1:00 p.m. Georgia is coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to No. 17 Arizona State and the conditions are expected to be much of the same.
