LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Saturday night's soccer match up between the University of Utah and UNLV was bitter sweet for the Utes. Though senior Amy Kofoed broke the school record for career goals (39), the Utes lost their third consecutive match. The Utes fell to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in the Mountain West Conference with a 2-1 loss to the Rebels.
Kofoed's goal came in the 30th minute off of a free kick from the right side of the field. It was her fifth goal of the season. The goal was the only point scored by either team in the first period, as the Utes took a 1-0 lead to the break.
UNLV would take charge in the second period, scoring the tying goal within 25 seconds after the second period was underway. At the 61:23 mark, the Utes committed a costly foul, which gave Rebel freshman Codi Schumaker a free kick. The rebound of her free kick set up an assist for senior defender Robyn Krivacic, who scored the game winning goal for the Rebels.
Courtney Hills had six saves, but took the loss at the goalkeeper position for the Utes. Hills is 2-4 on the season. UNLV out-shot Utah 7-3 in the second period. The win improved the Rebels to 7-4-2 overall and 1-1 in MWC.
Utah will return home for three consecutive home matches beginning on Oct. 21 against New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Ute Field.
