THIS WEEK: After earning their first Mountain West Conference win against New Mexico, the University of Utah women's soccer team (7-5-0, 1-2-0 MWC) will host two conference matches this week. On Oct. 25, the Utes will host Wyoming (2-8-3, 0-1-2 MWC) at 3:30 p.m. Utah will play its final home match of the season against Air Force (7-7-1, 2-1-0 MWC) on Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
PREVIEW: With a 2-8-3 overall record, Wyoming is win-less in conference play. After tying New Mexico and San Diego State, the Cowboys dropped a heartbreaker to UNLV in overtime last week. Wyoming is led by senior Sancy Florquist who has three goals and six points on the year.
Air Force is currently tied with BYU for the MWC lead at 2-1-0. With a variety of weapons, the Falcons are a dangerous opponent. Earlier this year, senior Beth Boyer scored four goals against Weber State. Freshman Jennifer Rowland scored a hat trick against Georgia State in September. Boyer leads the Falcons in goals (8) and points (21) and is tied for the team lead in assists (5). Air Force is coming off of two conference wins, defeating UNLV 3-2 and SDSU 3-0 last week.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: After dropping its first two conference games of the season, Utah earned its first MWC win over New Mexico, 2-0. The Lobos had momentum coming from an upset over BYU earlier in the week.
The match was scoreless until the 36th minute, when Ute junior, Shauna Gurr-Bingham scored to give Utah a 1-0 advantage. Katie Tate and Amy Kofoed were credited with assists. A tough defensive battle ensued in the second half. Utah continued to attack the goal, taking 24 shots throughout the match and limiting the Rebels to 5. With less than two minutes left, Gurr-Bingham scored her second goal of the game off of a Esther Imotan assist to give Utah a 2-0 win.
UTE NOTES:
