SALT LAKE CITY - Finishing the season a perfect 7-0 at home this season, the University of Utah women's soccer team (9-5-0, 3-2-0 MWC) earned its third-consecutive victory in conference play on Saturday. In a physical battle, the Utes came away with a 2-1 victory over Air Force (7-9-1, 2-30 MWC). Aggressive play on both sides of the field led to a game total of 34 fouls and four yellow cards.
Utah's Shauna Gurr-Bingham put the Utes on the scoreboard in the 14th minute. Stealing the ball deep in Falcon territory, Gurr-Bingham converted to score her seventh goal of the season. The remainder of the first period would be scoreless, with the Utes taking a 1-0 advantage to the break.
In the seventh minute of the second period, junior Katie Tate scored an unassisted goal to put the Utes up by two. With less than four minutes left in the match, Air Force's Nicole Beaumont scored from a Erin Heintz assist. Utah managed to fight off the Falcons for the remainder of the period to take the victory.
Sophomore Lynssey Asay earned the victory at goalkeeper to improve to 7-1 on the season. Air Force's Jennifer Monson suffered the loss despite having 11 saves in the game. Utah out-shot Air Force 20-8 in the match.
The Utes will finish their season on the road, playing Utah State on Nov. 1 and conference-leading BYU on Nov. 3 at 5:00 p.m.
