Laramie, Wyo. -- The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (6-6, 1-3 in the MWC) lost in three games, 28-30, 24-30, 30-19, to the 19th ranked Utah Utes (9-3, 3-2 in the MWC), on Saturday night, in Laramie.
Junior Sylva Strzinkova led the way for Utah finishing with a team high 15 kills and 11 digs. She also finished the night hitting .565 (15-2-23). The Utes also tallied 12 total team blocks, along with hitting .299 (51-19-107) on the evening.
The Cowgirls were led by senior Rachel Lau, who notched 12 kills and a .391 (39-25-119) hitting percentage. As a team, they hit .118 (39-25-119) and finished with only five total team blocks.
"We have been very competitive against every team we've played," said head coach Susan Steadman. "I must say that I'm disappointed with part of the second game and the third game, because we just seemed to give up. We still made an effort, but you have to realize that when you play ranked teams you can't let down. We're still an inexperienced team, which is a positive quality, that can help us grow and gain experience. But, I have to hand it to Utah, we challenged them, and they stayed competitive and got the job done."
Wyoming will now hit the road next week with matches against Denver, Air Force and New Mexico. They will face Denver on Tuesday night, Air Force on Friday and New Mexico on Saturday.
