SALT LAKE CITY -
Citing a desire to pursue other interests, University of Utah women's soccer coach Amy Winslow tendered her resignation today to associate director of athletics Amy Hackett. Her resignation was accepted.
"I am resigning to pursue other interests," said Winslow. "I will miss my association with the staff, players and university."
Winslow completed her seventh season as head Utah soccer coach last week at the Mountain West Conference Tournament, where Utah was eliminated in the semi-finals by Brigham Young (2-0). As Utah's head coach, she compiled a 77-53-5 record and was a two-time conference coach of the year. Utah was the MWC co-champion in 1999. Last year, 14 Utes were named to the all-conference academic team, the most of any MWC soccer team. One of Winslow's former players, Staci Burt, is now playing professionally for the WUSA.
Winslow is the only coach in the program's history. Utah Athletics Director Dr. Chris Hill announced on Aug. 30, 1994 that soccer would become a varsity women's sport starting in the fall of 1995. Winslow was hired as the program's first head coach in January of 1995 and the Utes began varsity play that September.
"We will immediately open the position and undertake a national search," said Hackett. "We anticipate a pool of very qualified candidates for this job."
