The University of Utah women's volleyball team enjoyed success off the court through many academic accomplishments in the fall semester 2000. Fifteen Utes made the honor roll with six athletes also earning Dean's List honors. That is over ninety percent (15 out of 16) of the athletes on the team receiving academic recognition in the fall of 2000.
All six starters, eight reserves and one redshirt were named to the fall semester honor roll. Athletes qualifying with at least a 3.00 grade point average were Megan Anderson, Brooke Barton, Brenda Beal, Adrianne Bradley-Drake, Katrena Ellett, Amber Fish, Alisa Geddes, Tara Henriksen, Taryn Horner, Jackie Morrill, Jen Snow-Richards, McKelle Stilson, Lucie Turkov?, Kim Turner and Lenka Urbanov?. Anderson, Barton, Beal, Fish, Turkov?, and Turner also garnered Dean's List honors with a 3.50 GPA or better. A total of fifty players have made the honor roll a combined 212 times (167 quarters and 45 semesters) during Coach Launiere's 11-year tenure at Utah.
Utah women's volleyball was also honored for its academic success by the Mountain West Conference. Barton, Beal, Bradley-Drake, Morrill, Snow-Richards, Stilson, Turkov?, Turner and Urbanov? earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference recognition.
Seniors Turkov? and Barton are on track to receive their degrees in May of 2000. Snow-Richards was listed as a senior, but finished her undergraduate course work in three years and is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration.
The Utes finished the Mountain West Conference regular-season and tournament play in third place. Utah ended its season with a 23-8 (.742) overall record and a 10-4 (714) conference mark. The 23-8 (.742) overall record comprised the best win-loss record in Utah volleyball history. Utah made its third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, posting its third consecutive second round finish. The Utes own a 3-3 NCAA record. The Utes earned their first-ever national ranking, coming in 18th in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 poll in the 2000 season. Utah continued as a ranked team for 14 consecutive weeks, was ranked as high as 15th in the poll, and finished the season as the No. 20 ranked team.
"What is impressive about 15 of our 16 players making the Honor Roll, is when you combine it with the success that we experienced on the court as well," said head coach Beth Launiere. "This team experienced a tremendous amount of success as student-athletes, and I am proud of that, and proud of them. I think it is a tribute to their character and their discipline as people. I'm proud that we have so many incredible people in our program," said Launiere.
