SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - After scoring 17 runs on 23 hits on Friday, Utah got only four runs in game one and one run in game two, picking up a split on Saturday. Utah (10-9) won the first game 4-2 before dropping the second 2-1.
In game one eight Utes had at least one hit. Chris Shelton finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI and his fourth homer of the season, and second in as many games. Mike Westfall also collected two hits in two at bats and drove in one run.
Travis Palmer picked up the win after going five innings and allowing only two earned runs. He also had four strikeouts and only two walks. Mitch Maio picked up his first save of the year after pitching the final two innings. Maio didn't allow any runs or hits wile recording two strikeouts.
Game two saw the Hornets score once in the fourth and one more in the seventh to defeat Utah 2-1. The Utes got their only run on a Donald Hawes eighth inning homer, his second of the year. Utah managed eight hits, but left seven runners on base in the loss. Chris Shelton had another two hits, giving him seven hits in the three games of the series.
Brett Lindsey suffered his second loss of the year. He allowed only two earned runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. He added three strikeouts and only had one walk. Matt McAfee went the final 1.2 innings allowing only one hit.
Danny Gonzalez got the win for the Hornet after going seven innings and allowing only one run on six hits.
The two team will wrap-up the four game series on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (MST).
