GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - The University of Utah women's soccer team traveled to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the No.17-Ranked Florida. The Utes fell behind early, sacrificing two goals in the first period. Florida's Abby Wambach scored the first goal of the game just past the 26-minute mark. Christine Johnson scored on a rebound soon after. Utah offense was unable to put numbers on the scoreboard in the first half, as the Gators took a 2-0 advantage to the half.
Wambach scored another goal three minutes into the second half off of a penalty kick. Utah's Shauna Gurr-Bingham put the Utes on the board off a 20-yard free kick at the 53-minute mark. The Gators responded with two more goals by Crystal Frimpong. A late goal by Utah's Esther Imotan was the Ute's final charge, as they fell to the Gators 5-2. Courtney Hills suffered the loss at the goalkeeper position. Hills had eight saves in the game. Amy Kofoed and Bobbie Benegas each had an assist for the Utes.
The Utes will continue their roadtrip on Sunday, Sept. 2 at South Florida. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
