THIS WEEK: The No. 24-ranked Utes (9-1-2, 2-0 MWC), in this week's Soccer Times poll, will continue their long road stretch as they face New Mexico. This match with the Lobos will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 at 12:00 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO: The Lobos are currently undefeated in conference play. They stand at 9-5-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Last week, they were able to hold off UNLV (1-0) and San Diego State (1-0) to come away with two conference wins.
New Mexico is also home to this week's MWC Player of the Week. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Winters garnered this honor after notching 1-0 shutouts against conference rivals San Diego State and UNLV.
SHAUNA GURR-BINGHAM IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Shauna Gurr-Bingham has tied former Ute Staci Burt's career-assists record (21). Gurr-Bingham's career tying assist came in the win against Wyoming, when she connected with teammate Tracy Stratton for the Utes' first goal of the game.
The senior forward has also tied former Ute standout Lorrie Tipton for the fourth-place ranking in goals (25). Gurr-Bingham's tying goal came in the Utes' victory over Air Force.
UTE NOTES: The Utes have moved up to the No. 23-ranking in the Soccer Times poll and they are tied with Florida State (7-3-3) for the No. 25-ranking in the Soccer Buzz poll. Utah also remains at No. 10 in the NSCAA Western regional poll and the Soccer Buzz regional poll.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hills-McBeth has recorded two shutouts thus far this season. She is currently ranked second in school history (15) and she is just three shy from the leader Tawni Martineau (18).
LAST WEEK: Utah boasts an undefeated conference record (2-0 MWC) as they dowsed the competition last week. Its two conference victories came from Wyoming (4-1) and Air Force (3-1). The Utes overpowered Wyoming as they took a commanding lead in the second half led by Amber Brower, Missy Dennis and Julie Herdic.
The Utes' all-around effort against Air Force was the deciding factor in the win. Utah came alive in the second-half after a scoreless first half. Utah outshot the Falcons 15-4 during the first half and 16-5 in the second. Keeper Hills-McBeth had four saves in the contest.
NEXT WEEK: After a long road trip, the Utes will be back at home at take on San Diego State and UNLV. The match with SDSU will be played on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 3:00 p.m. and the game with UNLV will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played on Ute Field.
