THIS WEEK:
The Utes (9-1-3, 2-0-1 MWC) will be back at home to take on San Diego State and UNLV. The game with the Aztecs will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, at 3:00 p.m. and the Utes' match up with the Rebels will be played Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be played at Ute Field.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE:
The Aztecs defeated Air Force last week, 1-0, in SDSU's first overtime victory since Nov. 15, 1998. This win improves SDSU's record to 10-4-0 with a 2-1 Mountain West Conference mark. The match with the Falcons ended 13 seconds into the first overtime. Senior Boo Tinling fed senior Nicole Findlay, who knocked in the game winning goal.
SCOUTING UNLV:
The Rebels came away with a victory last week after a grueling match with Wyoming. UNLV wasted no time in their 2-1 overtime win over the Cowgirls as freshman midfielder Michelle Cowles scored the deciding goal in the 92nd minute. UNLV raised its record to 10-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the MWC.
SHAUNA GURR-BINGHAM IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
Shauna Gurr-Bingham has tied former Ute Staci Burt's career-assists record (21). Gurr-Bingham's career tying assist came in the win against Wyoming on Oct. 10, when she connected with teammate Tracy Stratton for the Utes' first goal of the game.
The senior forward has also tied former Ute standout Lorrie Tipton for the fourth-place ranking in goals (25). Gurr-Bingham's tying goal came in the Utes' victory over Air Force on Oct. 12.
UTE NOTES:
The Utes fell out of both the Soccer Times and Soccer Buzz polls this week. Utah is ranked No. 10 in the SoccerBuzz.com Western regional poll.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hills-McBeth has recorded two shutouts thus far this season. She is currently ranked second in school history (15) and she is just three shy from leader Tawni Martineau (18).
LAST WEEK:
The Utes notched a 0-0 tie against New Mexico. Utah was unable to connect despite many shot opportunities. Utah outshot the Lobos by a slim margin of 16-12. Senior forward Shauna Gurr-Bingham and junior Missy Dennis both contributed with four shots apiece. Julie Herdic attempted two shots. Ute goalkeeper junior Lynnsey Asay-Kimball earned the shutout, finishing with five saves.
NEXT WEEK:
Utah will confront arch-rival BYU in the Utes' last regular season bout of the year. The match with the Cougars will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:00 p.m. on Ute Field.
