THIS WEEK:
Utah (7-1-2), ranked No. 25 in this week's Soccer Times poll, will take to the road to battle conference rivals Wyoming and Air Force. The Utes will take on the Cowgirls, Thursday, Oct. 10, at 3:00 p.m. in UW Soccer Stadium. The bout with the Falcons will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:00 a.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
SCOUTING WYOMING:
The Cowgirls defeated North Texas, 3-1, last week in a come-from-behind victory. Wyoming outshot North Texas 22-15, marking only the fourth time this season the Cowgirls have outshot an opponent.
SCOUTING AIR FORCE:
The Falcons are boasting this week's MWC Player of the Week honoree in sophomore midfielder Cookie Day. Last week, Day had a career-best five-point performance in the Falcons' 5-4 comeback victory over UNC Greensboro.
SHAUNA GURR-BINGHAM IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
Senior Shauna Gurr-Bingham is making her mark this season in the Ute record books. She has garnered four assists thus far this season and is ranked second behind former Ute Staci Burt. Gurr-Bingham (20 assists) is one assist away from tying Burt's record, which stands at 21 assists.
Gurr-Bingham has already surpassed former Ute Jacki Doman for the fourth-place ranking in points. Doman's old record stood at 63 points, but Gurr-Bingham's new record stands strong at 68 points. This strong-minded forward is also on the heels of Lorrie Tipton for the fourth-place ranking in goals. Tipton's record stands at 25 goals and Gurr-Bingham has 24 goals so far this season.
UTE NOTES:
The Utes are coming into this week ranked No. 25 in the Soccer Times poll. Utah is still holding on to its No. 10 place-ranking in the NSCAA Western regional poll and the Soccer Buzz regional poll.
LAST WEEK:
Utah showcased its talent as it defeated instate foes Utah State (3-2) and Weber State (1-0). Against Utah State, senior Katie Tate led the Utes with two goals in the victory. The Utes outshot the Aggies 15-8 and Ute goalkeeper Courtney Hills-McBeth came away with four saves.
Against Weber State, it was freshman Katie Battazzo that scored Utah's solo goal. Battazzo's goal came at 74:06 off an assist from Gurr-Bingham. The shutout win was credited to Hills-McBeth.
QUOTING COACH MANNING:
"This weekend will be a good test for us," states Head Coach Rich Manning. "We are playing two quality opponents on a trip which includes some tough travel. Wyoming has improved tremendously. Air Force has gotten some good results this season. Both teams will be fired up to play us."
NEXT WEEK:
The Utes will continue their long road stretch by taking on the Lobos of New Mexico. This match will be played Sunday, Oct. 20, at 12:00 p.m. in Albuquerque, N.M.
