The University of Utah Women's soccer coaching staff announced this week the formation of the Utah Women's Soccer Academy. The Academy, which is divided into a Girl's Academy and a Coed Academy, was created with the idea of exposing soccer players to the highest level of coaching.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to work top players from Utah and across the nation," said Utah Head Women's Soccer Coach and Academy Co-Director Rich Manning. "We feel the format that we have devised will give those players that participate in the Academy the tools to be successful in soccer."
The Girl's Academy will take place from July 15 through July 19. The Academy is a residential/commuter camp for top female players interested in playing college soccer. Participants must be ages 14-18 (9th grade to entering college freshmen). Those accepted to the Girl's Academy will get the opportunity to train for one week under the supervision and guidance of the University of Utah women's soccer staff at the University of Utah. Players will live on campus, and train on the outstanding U soccer facilities. In addition to top level training, players will be given written evaluations, participate in self evaluation and goal setting, and play in high level matches.
The Coed Academy will take place over two different weeks. The first will be held July 29 through August 2, with a second scheduled for August 5 through August 9. This Academy is for youth boys and girls ages 6 - 13. Players will be divided by age and skill level, and will be trained over a one week period by the University of Utah women's soccer staff as well as current and former Ute players.
